I have always kept a diary. In 2008 I set out to keep a visual one, making weekly collages of the woods where I then lived, a beautiful region of maple woods and rives north of the Adirondack park. Once a week from that January through September I walked out in the woods to sketch as deep winter relented to spring, spring to high summer and summer to autumn. I returned to my studio every week to make collages of the sketches using handmade paper, paint and embroidery. Each collage is 18” by 21”, and these collages are parts of that visual diary.
